Loneliness: A 21st century challenge
We invite you to join us at Loneliness: A 21st century challenge, a public lecture by visiting Professor Julianne Holt-Lunstad as she delves into the issues surrounding loneliness, how it affects us and what we as a society can do about it.
Loneliness is a serious and complex public health issue affecting far too many Australians and the research is clear; loneliness and social isolation have been linked to decreased immunity, elevated blood pressure, faster progression of Alzheimer’s disease and premature death. In fact, the persistent experience of loneliness can be as harmful as smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
Professor Holt-Lunstad is an expert on the topic of loneliness, a Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience and the Director of the Social Neuroscience lab at Brigham Young University, Utah.
